Hospital Life SUMMER 2018
Tuesday 16 Jan 2018
Welcome to the Summer issue of Hospital Life, kicking off another memorable year for The Alfred.
Our cover story promotes The Alfred’s Stay Safe Over Summer campaign. Every summer The Alfred cares for thousands of patients in need of emergency care – many with injuries that could have been prevented. As the busiest trauma centre in Australia, we want to know what you think are the main causes of many of these accidents and injuries.
The summer issue also focuses on our oncology service. Friends like you help create an extraordinary environment at the hospital where innovation and outstanding clinical care can flourish, and our oncology service is a wonderful example of this.
We feature two extraordinary clinicians at the forefront of this service: Professor John Zalcberg OAM and Professor Mark Shackleton. As you will see, both are truly at the top of their field, and are passionate about taking us one step closer to saving the lives of the 120,000 people diagnosed with cancer each and every year.
But it’s people like Georgi and her husband Ernie who remind me why we are here. Ernie came to The Alfred after being diagnosed with stage IV melanoma, but thanks to the care that he received, he is now in remission.
Ultimately, your generous support of the hospital helps people and families in need, and for that we say thank you.
