Hospital Life SUMMER 2017
Wednesday 25 Jan 2017
The first issue of Hospital Life for 2017 provides you with a collection of the latest stories from around the hospital – including research news, profiles of leading clinicians, and updates of past patients.
In our cover article, we profile the research of Professor Paul Myles, Director of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, whose recent research breakthrough is reducing the risk of abnormal blood clotting after open heart surgery.
Elsewhere in the issue, we provide a snapshot of the work of Simone Alexander – The Alfred’s Clinical Service Director, Emergency & Acute Medicine – as part of our regular ‘Day in the Life’ series. First starting at The Alfred as a student studying perioperative nursing in 1996, Simone’s extraordinary leadership skills eventually took her from the operating theatre to a career in hospital management.
Whether it is through the breakthrough clinical work of Professor Myles or the inspirational leadership of Simone Alexander, you will see that, above all, The Alfred is dedicated to one thing: improving the lives of our patients, their families, and the community.
One such patient is cancer survivor Mike George, who this issue shares his inspiring journey of recovery from a unique presentation of vocal cord cancer. In reflection, Mike points to the strength and support that he received from friends, family as well as the Alfred staff.
The Alfred Foundation would like to thank you all again for the instrumental role that you play in creating the exciting and dynamic environment that is The Alfred.
