Hospital Life SPRING 2016
Friday 07 Oct 2016
The Alfred continues to be an exciting environment for research and clinical innovation, and this is reflected in the Spring issue of Hospital Life.
In our cover article, we profile Alfred haematologist Associate Professor Andrew Wei, whose blood cancer research is offering new hope to a group of patients who can sometimes be told they only have a matter of weeks left to live.
Our research focus continues as we profile the work of Senior Physiotherapist at The Alfred, Lara Kimmel. Lara’s investigation into the amount of physiotherapy required for patients recovering from hip fracture has changed the care that these patients receive – and has effectively led to faster recovery times.
Featured as part of our regular ‘Day in the Life’ series is Professor David McGiffin, The Alfred’s Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Renowned internationally for his expertise in heart and lung transplants, Prof McGiffin elaborates on why he finds his work just as inspiring as he did when he first entered into the field three decades ago.
At the end of the day, our patients remain at the forefront of everything that we do. This issue we revisit the remarkable story of Sean Rice, who, 12 months following life-saving surgery, is enjoying a new lease of life.
The Alfred Foundation would like to thank you all again for your continued generosity. We hope you enjoy the Spring issue of Hospital Life.
